Many patients receive education and evaluation services prior to surgery at Queen’s Pre-Surgery Center, a full-service, pre-operative clinic that helps to optimize the best possible outcome for elective surgery patients. Learn more about the Pre-Surgery Center.
Prior to surgery, all patients are reminded to:
Follow doctor’s instructions for when to stop eating and drinking the night before your surgery. This includes gum, candy and water.
For your safety, surgery may be delayed or cancelled if your doctor’s instructions are not followed.
Everyone recovers from anesthesia differently; it can take several hours for patients to fully recover from anesthesia.
During this time:
Family members or loved ones may wait in our Kinau 3 Surgery Center (Level 3 via Iolani Elevator) or Same Day Surgery Center (Lobby Level via Pauahi Elevator), depending on where the patient’s procedure was performed.
During surgery, a volunteer may be available to share updates about the patient. If there is no volunteer, you may request information using the family phone.
