HONOLULU – The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu (QMC-West) will undergo a renovation project to provide more services for growing West Oahu communities.
New and expanded services will include a new Advanced Medical-Surgical inpatient unit with 24 private, tele-capable rooms, and two floors of specialty clinics. QMC-West will be expanding its existing services in General Surgery, Gastroenterology (GI), Cardiology, Neurology, and Sports Medicine, and will be adding programs in Orthopaedics/Spine, Otolaryngology (ENT), and Outpatient Rehabilitation. Additionally, QMC-West will be building a new, 8-story, 540 stall parking structure to support the planned growth of new and expanded services on campus.
“Our Queen’s West team has had the pleasure of serving the West community for 5 years and I personally have had the pleasure of living and working in West Oahu for those past five years,” said Susan Murray, QHS Senior Vice President, West Oahu Region, and Chief Operating Officer, The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu. “West Oahu is transforming into a vibrant community. Residents, leaders, businesses, and organizations have a strong sense of how special the West side is and how fortunate we all are to help shape our community’s future as it continues to grow. This renovation will extend our Queen’s Mission to attend to health care needs in West Oahu, broaden our ability to elevate the health of Native Hawaiians and the entire West community, and provide quality health care to all of the people of Hawaii,” said Murray.
Renovations are scheduled to begin shortly and end in 2020. Hospital operations will not be impacted during this time.
Since its opening in Spring 2014, The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu has seen inpatient volumes increasing among West O‘ahu residents despite declining statewide inpatient volumes. It has also seen significant growth in outpatient volumes. Emergency Department volumes among West O‘ahu residents also continue to grow significantly.
“The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu surpassed original volume projections from day one and is operating at capacity. Since that day, we have established a strong presence in the community, starting with essential services to support emergency care. It is now time to look at ways that we can expand our services to this growing community. We will continue to work with our neighbors to see and hear what services they are seeking, and expand our services to serve the community’s growing needs,” said Murray.
