HONOLULU – The Queen’s Medical Center has begun the process of taking down its triage tent located in the ambulance bay of its Punchbowl hospital. COVID-19 screening operations have been relocated to an adjacent building outside the Emergency Department. The new area, which consists of eight individual screening stations, will serve the same purpose as the tent during this period of lower patient volume. The tent will be reopened if there is a large increase in patients.
The Queen’s Health Systems has been carefully monitoring system-wide COVID-19 data and has seen a steady decline in the number of people, both inpatient and outpatient, tested per week based on testing guidelines (approximately 400 people tested the week of April 19, down from a peak of more than 1,100 people tested the week of March 15). The percent-positive rate for COVID-19 has also declined as the weeks have progressed (2.1% for the week of April 19, down from a peak of 4.9% the week of March 29).
Since the tent was put up on March 12, more than 1,000 patients have been screened inside the tent.
The COVID-19 triage tent at The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oʻahu will remain up and operational.
