An Arterial Duplex Scan, also known as an Arterial Ultrasound, uses sound waves to produce images of the arteries in your arms or legs and measures how much blood is flowing through the blood vessels. The ultrasound images are much like a movie and allow your doctor to see and hear the blood flow, and helps to determine if there are any blockages or narrowings which may reduce blood flow.
An Arterial Duplex Scan takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes. During the scan you will be laying on a bed.
The sonographer will use specialized gel along the length of the arm or leg they are scanning to help to obtain the ultrasound images.
The test is painless and involves little risk.
There are no post-test instructions.
If you experience any problems related to the procedure please call you physician.
Your study will be reviewed by our specialist and the results will be sent to your physician. Your physician will discuss the test results with you.
