Pfizer COVID-19 boosters are now available for the following groups at least six months after their second Pfizer vaccination.
- People 65 years and over
- Residents in long-term care settings
- People 18-64 years with specific underlying conditions
- Adults at high risk of disease from occupational and institutional exposures to COVID-19 such as health care workers
The booster in only available to those in one of the above groups who received their Pfizer second shot at least six months ago. For example, to receive your booster on September 24, your second dose of Pfizer must have been on or before March 24.
Many of the people who are now eligible to receive a booster shot received their initial vaccine early in the vaccination program and will benefit from additional protection. With the Delta variant’s dominance and cases of COVID-19 increasing significantly across the United States, a booster shot will help strengthen protection against severe disease in those populations at high-risk for exposure to COVID-19 or the complications from severe disease.
Booster shots are not yet available for those who received the Moderna or J&J vaccination and the CDC does NOT recommend mixing vaccinations (ex: Moderna original vaccine + Pfizer booster, or J&J original vaccine and Pfizer booster),
Booster shots are available, as are first and second vaccinations, at the QNHCH Vaccine Clinic with no appointment necessary. The clinic is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 7 am – 6 pm.
CDC Underlying Medical Conditions at Higher Risk for COVID-19
- Cancer
- Chronic Kidney disease
- Chronic lung disease (such as COPD and asthma)
- Dementia
- Diabetes
- Down Syndrome
- Heart conditions (such as coronary artery disease and hypertension)
- Liver disease
- Obesity
- Pregnancy
- Sickle cell disease
- Smoker (former or current)
- Transplant patients
- Stroke or cerebral vascular disease
- Substance use disorders
