Employee Benefits

The Queen’s Health Systems has a long tradition of caring for our employees. We recognize that a comprehensive benefits program is a vital component of every compensation package. At the same time, we also realize that each individual has his or her own individual set of needs and priorities. We’ve developed a flexible and innovative program to help our employees select the benefits that work best for them and their families.

Eligibility

Regular full-time employees scheduled for 40 hours per week
Regular part-time employees scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week
Eligible dependents may also be covered under our medical and dental plan up to a certain age limits

Medical Plans

Provide comprehensive health care coverage with medical surgical, hospital, prescription drugs and vision benefits and unlimited lifetime maximums for all plans. Plans offered are Preferred Provider Organizations plans (PPO).

Dental Plans

The Hawaii Dental Service plan provides coverage for examination and cleaning of your teeth and other dental services including: Preventive Services, Oral Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontics and Prosthodontics.

Basic Life Insurance

Life insurance plans provide basic term life coverage for non-bargaining, full-time employees. Additional coverage can be purchased through the Supplemental and Dependent Life Plans.

Long Term Disability Insurance

LTD insurance is designed to replace a portion of your income if you become disabled and are unable to work. The benefit amount is based on your pre-disability base monthly salary and is coordinated with any other disability income benefits such as social security, workers compensation, etc.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

Accidental death and dismemberment insurance provides coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you die or are injured as a result of an accident. AD&D benefits are in addition to your Employee Group Life Insurance benefit. The plan pays your full benefit amount to your beneficiary if you die as a result of an accident. A percentage of your benefit is paid to you if you suffer a dismemberment, or lose your sight, speech or hearing as a result of an accident.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Health Care Spending Account

Expenses that are eligible for reimbursement include co-payments, deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses and expenses you incur that are not covered by your health care plan for medical, dental, vision, hearing and prescription drugs.

Dependent Care Spending Account

You may use this spending account if your dependents require care because you work and your spouse (if applicable) is employed, disabled or a full-time student. Expenses eligible for reimbursement include day care fees for children who need nursery, pre-school or after-school care as long as the child is under 13 years old and considered your dependent (for tax purposes). Care for dependents of any age who are physically or mentally incapable of caring for themselves, including elderly dependents.

Retirement Savings Plan – The 401(k) Plan was established to give employees the opportunity to help save for their retirement years with special tax-sheltered savings through convenient payroll deductions. Employees are immediately eligible to participate in our 401(k) plan. You can elect to have up to 100% of your salary automatically deducted from your paycheck each pay period, on a pre-tax basis and contributed to the 401(k) up to the annual IRS dollar limit.

Queen’s provides a generous employer match to your 401(k) contributions. You are eligible for employer matching contributions after you have:

  • Completed at least one year of service
  • Worked at least 1,000 hours a year

You are immediately 100% vested in the total balance of your plan accounts.

Paid Time Off

The Queen’s Paid Time Off (PTO) program is an important benefit for employees. Holidays, vacation and sick time are all combined into a personal PTO “bank.” Queen’s provides you with 10 holidays each year, which are part of your PTO bank. The rate at which you accumulate PTO credit depends upon your job category and your length of service.

Extended Sick Leave

Extended Sick Leave (ESL) is also part of the PTO program and is available if you have a lengthy illness or injury.  However, ESL is a separate account balance from your regular PTO bank. Regular full-time employees accrue 56 hours of ESL annually. Your hours are kept in a separate ESL bank.

Holidays

Holidays are included in your Paid Time Off (PTO) bank. The designated holidays that are observed by The Queen’s Health Systems each year are:

  • New Year’s Day
  • President’s Day
  • Kuhio Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Kamehameha Day
