The Queen’s Health Systems today announced that Peter Miller will join the organization as its Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications. He will assume this newly created position on February 7, 2022.
As a member of the Queen’s leadership team, Miller will develop and oversee initiatives that build and enhance the Queen’s brand, amplify its message to the communities it serves, and promote the health system’s mission to improve the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawai‘i.
“It’s truly an honor to be returning home to Hawai‘i to serve the community I grew up in,” said Miller, who is a graduate of ‘Iolani School in Honolulu. “My education and career goals took me to Ohio, Wisconsin and back to Ohio, but my heart has remained on the island with my ʻohana, drawing me to this incredible opportunity to serve the people of Hawai‘i at Queen’s.”
Miller has spent the past 30 years in various marketing roles at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, most recently serving as Administrator of the Division of Marketing and Communications. A member of the organization’s leadership team, he managed a $72 million budget and oversaw 200 professionals throughout the Cleveland Clinic enterprise. His notable accomplishments during his tenure include working collaboratively with clinical leadership on a strategy that earned the main campus a consistent place at the top of the Honor Roll in U.S. News & World Report and resulted in Cleveland Clinic achieving top hospital status in the three U.S. metropolitan areas where it has inpatient facilities. He was also instrumental in establishing a partnership with Wal-Mart to provide health content that was distributed in its stores. Miller is a frequent lecturer about various strategic marketing principles that he successfully applied at Cleveland Clinic.
Miller is a member of The Leader’s Board, a prestigious networking group of healthcare executives from across the United States, and he founded a steering committee of healthcare marketing leaders to conduct annual benchmarking for healthcare marketing and communications, which has recently established a partnership that includes research conducted traditionally on behalf of the Society for Health Care Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD). He received bachelor’s degrees in English and Psychology from Kenyon College in Ohio and a Master of Science in Marketing Research, along with a MBA, from the University of Wisconsin.
“Peter’s exceptional talent and insight, extensive health care experience, and strong connections within our industry will advance our strategic marketing and communications efforts significantly,” said Rowena Buffett Timms, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for The Queen’s Health Systems. “We are delighted to welcome Peter home to Hawai‘i. He brings with him deep experience and a strong track record, and Queen’s is so fortunate to be adding him to our leadership team.”
