We offer a variety of courses aimed towards professional development for Queen’s clinical providers and community partners at other health care facilities who specialize in trauma care. These classes are taught by our clinical providers and providers from partnering associations.
Developed by the American College of Surgeons, this course emphasizes a team approach to the initial evaluation of trauma patients at a rural facility. This is a one-day course, which includes both interactive lectures as well as team scenarios.

The Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) program is an advanced two-day course for experienced nurses working in the prehospital setting, emergency department, critical care unit, and operating room who wish to increase their knowledge and practical skills in managing critically injured trauma patients. The ATCN course is taught alongside the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course.

The Advanced Trauma Life Support Student Course (ATLS) presents a concise approach to assessing and managing multiply injured patients. The program provides doctors with techniques that are comprehensive and easily adaptable to fit their needs. The course was developed by The American College of Surgeons and its Committee on Trauma.

The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) was developed to provide nurses with the knowledge and psychomotor skills to properly assess and care for children with acute illnesses or injuries. The Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) course is a one-day cadaver-based program for mid-level and senior surgical residents, trauma and acute care surgical fellows, or surgeons who wish to undertake a review of anatomy. The program follows a modular, body region approach, focusing on exposures in five key anatomic areas: neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis, and upper and lower extremities. Each section begins with a short, case-based overview, followed by a hands-on exposure performed by students under the guidance of faculty. The program was created by the American College of Surgeons.
