Liver Transplantation at Queen’s

Liver transplant is a life-saving surgical procedure to replace a diseased liver with a healthy liver. Liver transplant is indicated for those patients with chronic liver disease (most commonly from viral hepatitis) and for irreversible acute liver failure.

The first liver transplant was performed in Hawaii in 1993 and since that time, our surgeons and staff have performed more than 360 liver transplants. The liver team works closely with the Queen’s Liver Center to provide patients with continuity of care and long-term management of liver disease with a multi-disciplinary approach.

Referrals for Liver Transplant Evaluation

Physicians may refer their patients with urgent liver transplant evaluation to one of our transplant hepatologists for an initial consultation by calling Physician’s Exchange 808-524-2575 (local) or 800-360-2575 (toll free); and nonurgent liver transplant evaluation or management of chronic liver disease to Queen’s Liver Center by calling 808-691-8838.
