To deliver the highest quality, timely, specialized, yet relevant pathology diagnostic information and education for the care of our patients, utilizing state-of-the-art methodology, technology and sub-specialty expertise to achieve optimum patient outcomes.
Pathology is a specialty of medicine that focuses on the causes, mechanisms, and effects of disease. Department of Pathology Services, located on the second floor of the CSC building, is composed of five major subdivisions: Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Autopsy Pathology, Histopathology, and Hematopathology. Personnel employed in the department are responsible for accessioning, processing, investigating, interpreting, reporting, coding, and filing approximately 50 autopsies, 23,000 blood and bone marrow specimens, 76,000 surgical specimens, and 86,000 cytology specimens each year.
Providing education and training is another important function of the department. The unique spectrum of cases seen at QMC makes the Department a valued component of the University of Hawaii’s resident training program. Residents, post sophomore fellows, medical students, and fellows from UH, the mainland and other countries come to serve in the department for specified periods of time.
Our personnel are of the highest caliber, with credentials appropriate to their specialties and a commitment to excellence.
The Queen’s Medical Center’s Pathology Services is staffed by 65 employees who pride themselves on delivering the highest quality of service.
