The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at The Queen’s Medical Center Neuroscience Institute is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center. Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

A Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center designation means that patients in Hawai‘i do not have to travel to the mainland for advanced care for epilepsy and seizure disorders. We are able to provide all the services that patients may need for the treatment of even the most complex epilepsy cases.

As the only epilepsy center in Hawai‘i with this distinction, our epilepsy specialists are able to diagnose and treat the most severe forms of epilepsy with a wide variety of treatment options, such as:

Queen’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center’s team of epilepsy specialists are board-certified in both epilepsy and general neurology, and are ready to provide the widest spectrum of available diagnostic and treatment options, including:

  • Inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit evaluation
  • High-resolution brain imaging for epilepsy
  • Memory (neuropsychological) testing

Should You Seek Evaluation at a Certified Epilepsy Center?

You should seek evaluation at a certified epilepsy center if:
  • You have tried two or more medications and are still having seizures
  • You or your doctors are unsure of the diagnosis
  • You would like further information on the most up-to-date treatment options
  • You continue to take an older seizure medication that has long-term side effects

Multidisciplinary Epilepsy Team

Our specialty trained team works closely with neuropsychologists, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and dietitians to provide the full spectrum of epilepsy care. For more advanced medical needs, our Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center team has access to the full clinical services of an entire system of care in The Queen’s Health Systems.
