Colonoscopy

No other screening tool is as effective as a colonoscopy, and it does not need to be repeated for 5 to 10 years, depending on the results. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), colon cancer screening should be done beginning at age 50. If there are other factors involved, such as a strong family history of colon cancer or polyps, or if you have had inflammatory bowel disease or polyps, screening should be done earlier.
