Chief Operating Officer, The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu and The Queen’s Medical Center – Wahiawā and Senior Vice President, The Queen’s Health Systems
Robin Kalohelani, RN, MSN/Ed, CCM, FACHE, is the Chief Operating Officer of The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oʻahu (QMC West) and The Queen’s Medical Center – Wahiawā (QMC Wahiawā), and a Senior Vice President at The Queen’s Health Systems.
Kalohelani oversees the daily operations of both QMC West and QMC Wahiawā. Because West Oʻahu has the largest Native Hawaiian community in the state, a key part of her role has been working with Queen’s Native Hawaiian Health Program and other organizations to bolster innovations and services that improve the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians.
Kalohelani began her career at The Queen’s Medical Center – Manamana (Punchbowl) in 2006 as a case manager for community health. In 2013, she became the project leader to transform the former site of Hawai‘i Medical Center West into QMC West. She oversaw the $150 million renovation project to establish a modern hospital to serve the residents of Central and West O‘ahu and fill a critical need to support emergency and health care services in the region. Within a year, QMC West opened in ‘Ewa Beach and the hospital’s Emergency Department became Hawai‘i’s second busiest, behind QMC Manamana.
Kalohelani has held several key leadership roles focusing on strategic planning and business management. Previously, as Vice President of Operations and Associate Chief Nursing Officer, she spearheaded a $15 million Same Day Surgery addition to the QMC West campus. From 2021 to 2023, as Administrator of Patient Care/Associate Chief Nurse, she increased patient revenue and expanded bed capacity and clinic services. Earlier roles included Administrator/Director of Care Transitions and Clinical Services (2018 to 2021), where she launched new outpatient services, and Continuing Care and Resource Manager (2014 to 2018), where she improved patient flow and operational efficiency.
QMC West has also attained full accreditation by The Joint Commission, the health care industry’s leading safety and quality agency, and was awarded an “A” grade for safety by Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog organization that propels hospital safety toward best practices on behalf of health care consumers. Additionally, Kalohelani led the recognition of QMC West by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for achieving two or more consecutive years of strict adherence to quality measures for heart failure and stroke management and for resuscitation.
Kalohelani has been instrumental in the planning of the expansion of QMC West, which will quadruple the campus footprint to better serve the health care needs of the region’s residents. She also steered a campus renovation project to provide more specialists and wellness programs for the people of the region.
Kalohelani holds a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Healthcare Education from the University of Phoenix in Honolulu, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hawai‘i Pacific University in Honolulu. She is a Certified Case Manager, and was named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2023. She also completed the Executive Fellowship with the American Organization for Nursing Leadership in 2023.
