HONOLULU – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded The Queen’s Medical Center and The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oahu a five-star rating for overall hospital quality.

The recognition comes in the December 2017 Hospital Compare Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating.

“This is very good news for The Queen’s Medical Center and The Queen’s Medical Center-West O’ahu,” said Leslie B. Chun MD, Chief Medical Officer & Chief Quality Officer, The Queen’s Medical Center. “Less than 10% of our nation’s 4,500 hospitals receive this honor. This is something to be very proud of, and is recognition of the very high level of care provided by our dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff.”

CMS developed the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating to reflect comprehensive quality information about the care provided in US hospitals. The rating system examines quality measures such as safety and wait times, and summarizes them into a star rating.

There are 57 measures spread across 7 comprehensive domains (Mortality, Readmission, Safety of Care, Patient Experience, Efficient Use of Medical Imaging, Timeliness of Care, Effectiveness of Care).

Queen’s scored above the national average in Readmission, Safety of Care, Patient Experience, and Efficient Use of Medical Imaging.
